BRITISH VALUES & PROTECTED CHARACTERISTICS

Our Commitment to British Values and Equality

At Take 1, we are proud to promote British values and celebrate the diversity of our school community. We are dedicated to creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment where every student and member of staff is valued and supported to achieve their full potential.

Promoting British Values

We actively foster the core British values of:

- Democracy: Encouraging pupils to participate in decision-making processes, such as encouraging pupils to contribute to school rules, debates, and discussions, to understand the importance of having a voice.

- Rule of Law: Teaching the significance of laws and rules through PSHE and SMSC, behaviour policies, and classroom activities to help pupils appreciate fairness and safety.

- Individual Liberty: Supporting pupils to make informed choices, explore their interests, and express themselves confidently in a safe and supportive environment.

- Mutual Respect and Tolerance: Emphasising the importance of respect for others, embracing differences, and understanding a variety of faiths, beliefs, and cultures through assemblies, Religious Education, and personal, social, health, and economic (PSHE) lessons.

These values are embedded across our curriculum, school ethos, and daily practices to prepare pupils for life in modern Britain.

Delivering British Values and Equality Across Our Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to ensure that British values and respect for protected characteristics are woven into all aspects of teaching and learning.

- In Debate, pupils learn about key events and figures that shaped democracy, the rule of law, and social justice.

- In English, pupils explore literature that reflects diverse voices, cultures, and perspectives, encouraging empathy and critical thinking.

- In SMSC, pupils gain an understanding of different faiths and worldviews, promoting tolerance and mutual respect.

- In PSHE, students are taught about their rights and responsibilities, the importance of diversity, and strategies to challenge discrimination.

- In Extracurricular Activities, we celebrate cultural events, historical milestones, and community values that reinforce inclusivity and shared responsibility.
